New Hampshire Environmental Educators (NHEE), Vermont Education & Environment Network (VEEN), and Upper Valley Teaching Place Collaborative (UVTPC) are teaming up again for the Teach for Tomorrow: Winter Webinar Series, offering educators a diverse range of professional development opportunities, covering topics from environmental science and sustainable education to curriculum connections, all aimed at empowering teachers to engage students and create impactful learning experiences both indoors and outdoors. Participants will earn 1 hour of professional development.
Join Mollie Surprenant, School & Youth Program Coordinator at Billings Farm & Museum, for a thoughtful exploration of how place-based experiences can deepen literacy learning in any setting. In this virtual Zoom session, Mollie will share how everyday moments in a specific place—using examples from her work at the farm—can naturally support key literacy skills and spark meaningful student engagement.
With her extensive literacy background, Mollie will highlight clear curriculum connections, offer helpful refreshers for those who’ve been out of the classroom, and provide valuable insights for educators less familiar with current literacy expectations. Together, we’ll discuss how sensory-rich, real-world experiences can strengthen reading, writing, vocabulary, and critical thinking while seamlessly connecting to science and social studies standards.
Discover practical strategies, engaging examples, and fresh ideas for weaving place-based ecological education into lessons—no matter what “place” you find yourself teaching.
